Facts about the Forth Bridges near Edinburgh

There are 3 different bridges that cross the River Forth just north of Edinburgh. This is the original - the Forth Bridge which takes trains over.

There are also 2 road bridges now. The first looks similar to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco! The 2nd only opened in 2020

The Rail Bridge was completed in 1890 and was a huge achievement in Victorian engineering. It's also a UNESCO heritage site.

Painting the bridge is a full time job.  It's often said that once you finish one side it's time to start again from the other!

You can go on boat trips around the bridges which give a great perspective of them all. They are also easy to get to from Edinburgh - only 20 mins by train
