These abbeys in the Scottish Borders are all within easy reach of Edinburgh if you wanted to do a day trip.   They are all different and have varying amounts of the structure left. They're all simply stunning too... 

Melrose Abbey

it is said that Robert the Bruce's heart is buried here

The most visited Abbey  is in the town of Melrose, in the shadow of the hills

Dryburgh Abbey

The writer Sir Walter Scott is buried here

Is close by but secluded in the Scottish countryside

Jedburgh Abbey

The whole town has a lot of history including being where Mary, Queen of Scots stayed

is not far from England's border

Kelso Abbey

It's right in town so perfect for combining with some shopping

is the one with the least remaining but it's still amazing to see
